Cancel your subscription before deleting your account.

Deleting your Folio account does not cancel a "support plan" subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play. Subscriptions are managed by the store and live in a separate system from your Folio account. If you currently have an active plan, cancel it in the store's subscription settings first, or the store will keep charging you on the original cycle.

Upon deletion, the following data is permanently deleted:

• Your sign-in account (Google / Apple)
• Profile: nickname, character styling, gender, date of birth, location, book category preferences, personality answers, mode, and desired gender
• All posts you published and the applications they received, all applications you submitted, and posts you bookmarked
• Your reading progress and reading share cards
• Notes in your personal bookshelf
• Reading journal: started/finished dates, reading time, reading goals and keepsakes, check-in records (text); for supporters, cloud-backup photos, backgrounds, share images and drafts, and style settings; your reader's card visibility setting
• When you delete from within the app, this account's local data on that phone (photos, drafts, and settings)
• Notes and reviews you published to "Everyone's sticky notes" (not retained anonymously), plus the loves you gave, band-unlock records, "Notifications for this book" settings, public-wall entry records, and catalogue reports
• Your virtual study rooms: the room, its arrangement, the books on the shelves, the paper-note stack outside the room, and the likes and guestbook comments that room received
• Likes you gave to other people's study rooms
• Drift bottles: bottles you cast, and replies that had not yet become a pen-pal connection (except letters already moved to the archive because they expired, were declined, or were removed by moderation — see the retention note below)
• Friendships, friend and co-reading invitations, and your friend code
• Your usage-analytics records (feature-tap events, time spent per screen, app open counts, and the usage-status snapshot kept to evaluate new features)
• Push notification token
• In-app notices
• Your block list

The following data is not deleted, but is anonymized (your association is removed; it appears in the app as "A book friend who left"):

• Chat messages within co-reading rooms
• Sticky notes on co-reading note walls
• Text from your posts or applications preserved in co-reading rooms (motivation, co-reading styles, expected weeks)
• Comments you left in other people's study-room guestbooks
• Drift-bottle correspondence where a pen-pal connection was established (it becomes a read-only memento on the other person's side)

Reason: this content is jointly created with your reading partners or pen pals; deleting it entirely would destroy the memento they keep. Anonymization removes the link between this content and your account; however, if the content itself contains information that identifies you, you may still be recognizable.

The following stays with the person who received it:

• Copies of drift-bottle letters you sent that others have saved to their own letter box (kept until that person deletes them)

The following is archived by Folio and not shown to any user:

• Letters of yours already moved to the drift-bottle archive (expired, declined, or removed by moderation): the text is cleared automatically 2 years after archiving

The following is retained for statistics or system operation:

• Daily active-user list (only the date and an account identifier, used to calculate activity and retention): kept after account deletion so that historical statistics are not rewritten; the identifier it holds no longer resolves to any profile on Folio.
• Timing records used for rate limiting (for example when you liked a room or looked up a friend code; containing no content): may be kept after you delete your account.
• Daily database backups, kept for 7 days: deleted data disappears from backups as they rotate.

The following is retained to meet legal obligations or safety needs:

• Terms-of-service consent records: retained for 5 years from the moment you gave consent, containing the terms version, time, and method of consent, the IP address and device identifier string at that moment, and a salted hash of your email (which cannot be reversed to recover your email).
• Payment and subscription event records: plan tier, amount and currency, store country or region code, purchase and renewal, expiry events, and store-side transaction identifiers. Kept as financial records for reconciliation, refund disputes, and the retention duties under the Commercial Accounting Act and the Tax Collection Act, with no fixed deletion period. Once you delete your account, the link between these records and your profile is removed; the records still hold the store-side transaction identifiers and the account identifier used by the subscription service (RevenueCat), which is deliberately kept because it is necessary for investigating refund disputes and no longer resolves to any profile on Folio.
• Report and enforcement records: a closed report is retained for 5 years and then deleted automatically. Moderation action audit records (action type, time, and a snapshot of the content at that moment) are retained to prevent suspension evasion, for community-safety auditing, and for legal defence, and are not removed when an account is deleted; after deletion the identifier they hold no longer resolves to any profile on Folio.
